Dean, Willie A. Deese College of Business & Economics
North Carolina A&T State University (N.C. A&T) seeks an experienced, strategic, and visionary leader to become Dean of the Willie A. Deese College of Business & Economics. Reporting to the Provost and serving as the college's chief academic and administrative officer, the dean will set strategic priorities for the college and establish a vision for future growth and success.
N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant doctoral high research institution and has been the largest historically Black university in the country for the past decade. With an enrollment of 14,311 students in Fall 2024, the university offers 59 undergraduate degree programs, 35 master’s programs, and 14 doctoral programs. It is America’s top producer of Black graduates in Engineering and Agricultural Science bachelor’s programs and a top five producer in numerous additional disciplines, including Liberal Arts and Communications/Journalism. It also ranks no. 3 in master’s degrees awarded to Black graduates in Engineering Technologies and Related Fields, no. 4 in master’s degrees in engineering, and no. 11 best business school for women in the nation.
The Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics, established in 1971, has over 80 full-time faculty and approximately 2,000 students (1,800+ undergraduate and 180+ graduate students) in 5 academic departments. The Deese College of Business and Economics offers a range of undergraduate degrees, a Master of Business Administration in four focus areas, and a Master of Accountancy. Our programs are accredited by AACSB International — The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Of the estimated 15,679 schools offering business programs globally, N.C. A&T is one of about 876 that hold this prestigious accreditation. N.C. A&T is also one of 190 schools worldwide with separate AACSB accreditation for its Accounting program.
The dean is a member of the Provost’s Deans Council. The dean supervises the college’s assessments and action plans and collaborates with various stakeholders to implement and update the long-range strategic vision and the college’s contributions to the University’s 2030 strategic plan. The dean also engages in day-to-day administrative activities as necessary.
The dean will manage a budget of $16.5 million, oversee revenue from various sources, track expenditures, analyze current spending, monitor ROI, and submit strategic budget requests aligned with the University’s 2030 strategic plan. The dean will work closely with local, regional, and national business leaders and collaboratively with the University's Division of Advancement to build a substantial endowment to fund new initiatives and enhance the College's future.
The next dean of the College of Business and Economics should possess a terminal degree from an AACSB-accredited school and academic credentials suitable for the rank of full professor within the College; however, candidates with significant leadership experience outside of academia will also be considered if they demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to higher education and the future of business and economics education and research.
