Summary
The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) College of Business Administration invites applications for a non-tenure system faculty position for full-time Lecturer. The role will entail teaching primarily undergraduate courses in various business disciplines.
The primary teaching responsibility will involve multiple sections of a new required first-year course titled Business Decision-Making (BA111). The focus of the course is to build analytical skills with a particular emphasis on quantitative reasoning and basic data analysis through applications to business decisions in each of the key business disciplines. The course will emphasize experiential learning, including cases and projects, and engagement with business professionals. The course will be taught in coordination with the instructors teaching other sections of the course.
Additional teaching responsibilities will include other business courses, such as the first-year seminar course focused on building skills for academic success and career exploration, and additional courses in various business areas, as needed.
The standard course load for full-time lectures is eight 3-credit hour courses or the equivalent.
In addition to teaching, candidates must be willing to provide service to the department, business school, university, and business profession and be active in student engagement and activities.
Duties & Responsibilities
Non-Tenure system faculty in the College of Business Administration are expected to do the following:
Teach courses to undergraduate and/or graduate students
Perform service roles relating to teaching in their department, college, and/or university
Contribute to the broader mission of the College through industry engagement, student activities, and professional development
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Requirements for the rank of Lecturer include a master’s degree in a business-related field, evidence of teaching capability, demonstrated efforts in service and in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion through teaching.
Preferred Qualifications
A successful candidate will have experience of effective teaching at the college freshman or sophomore level.
A well-rounded knowledge of business as evidenced, e.g., by an MBA degree or industry experience, is desirable.
Experience working with diverse student populations, including first-generation students and underrepresented minority students, is preferred.
Experience teaching quantitative reasoning content and/or data analysis tools in various business contexts is preferred.
