Saïd Business School and St Antony’s College are recruiting an Associate Professor of International Business. For this post, the School welcomes applications from early career candidates (i.e., scholars who have completed or will very soon complete their PhD), postdoctoral researchers (i.e., scholars who are currently in a postdoc position), and faculty who are already a tenure-track faculty member. At Oxford the rank of Associate Professor includes faculty that would elsewhere be considered of Assistant or Associate Professor rank. The position is tenable from 1 September 2026 or at a different date by negotiation. The position is associated with a non-tutorial fellowship at St Antony’s College.
The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon (UK time) on Monday 29 September 2025
As a global business school embedded in a 900-year-old world-class university, Saïd Business School is committed to a vision of attracting and educating leaders who can tackle complex world-scale challenges, to make the world a better and more equitable place. We are proud of our academic excellence, delivering cutting-edge education and ground-breaking research that transform individuals, organisations, and business practice. This scholarly environment is built in part on our capacity to bring people together across disciplines and sectors to share knowledge, exchange ideas and create solutions.
We are inviting applications from those with a background in International Business, broadly defined, who are committed to a programme of intellectually rigorous and relevant scholarship in global strategy, comparative political economy of business, and international political economy, that is publishable in top academic management journals (as defined, for instance, by the Financial Times’s 48 peer-reviewed academic journals), top social science journals and as books with top academic publishers.
The successful candidate will join the International Business group which conducts research addressing pressing global issues, such as sustainability and labour standards in global value chains, innovation in emerging markets, digital transformation (including the adoption of artificial intelligence) and future of work, and state capacity and its implication for business. The group takes a distinct multi-level perspective to studying the political economy of international business. An important focus of the group, therefore, is to study how system-level institutions affect, and are affected by, organizational strategies, management and politics. Many of the group members engage actively with colleagues from other parts of Oxford in formal and informal research collaborations. The group is also committed to mixed methods in research, ranging from qualitative methods to experimental and quantitative methods. We therefore strongly encourage applicants from any methodological background as we continue to broaden the methodological interests of our group.
The main duties of the post are as follows:
Research - Engage in original research in the fields of International Business and the Comparative Political Economy of Business that meets or exceeds the School’s standards for research excellence with respect to scientific rigor and relevance - Publish research in top-ranked, peer reviewed academic journals, particularly those on the Financial Times academic journal list, and in books with top academic publishers - Disseminate research through various channels, such as participation in international conferences, delivering talks in seminar series, and communicating with the media - Engage in the development, management, and running of research projects - Raise research funding (when necessary) from internal and external sources - Demonstrate research impact and, through this, inform business practice
Teaching and Examining - Give lectures and classes on taught graduate courses, including the MBA, Executive MBA, Diplomas, and doctoral courses, as required - Teach on the School’s main graduate courses including the core Global Strategy course (MBA and EMBA) - Develop and teach on new graduate-level elective courses - Supervise masters’ and doctoral students, as required - Participate, from time to time and as needed, in the development and delivery of executive education programmes on topics related to international business and the postholder’s expertise - Take part in examining/assessment as and when requested to do so by the appropriate committees
If you would like to discuss this post and find out more about joining the academic community at Oxford, please contact mari.sako@sbs.ox.ac.uk
All enquiries will be treated in strict confidence and will not form part of the selection decision.
Essential criteria - Hold a doctorate in Management or a closely related discipline, such as Economics, Political Science, and Sociology - Have a track record of excellent publications in highly-ranked, peer reviewed academic journals in international business and/or related social science disciplines, top social science journals and in books with top academic publishers, commensurate with the candidate’s career stage - Have an outstanding programme of rigorous and relevant research that addresses important and interesting issues pertinent to International Business and/or the Political Economy of Business - The ability and willingness to teach, supervise, and assess high-achieving students with real world professional experience, who come from diverse cultural backgrounds - A commitment to outstanding and innovative teaching - The willingness and ability to work effectively as part of a team of faculty and non-faculty staff at the School and contribute to helping the School and University achieve academic excellence - Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills necessary for undertaking teaching and the pastoral care of students - The willingness and ability to undertake administrative duties both within the School and the College
Desirable criteria - An established record of engagement with businesses, governments and/or non-governmental; organisations on global business issues - The ability to build the profile of the School on management and public policy issues
The selection committee recognises that candidates can contribute to the University and College goals in many different ways and will use its professional judgement, based on the evidence available to decide how successfully candidates might make such contributions, bearing in mind the needs of the School and the College. It is expected that the candidate’s research and teaching is of the highest quality.
