Baylor University seeks an established leader to serve as Dean of the Hankamer School of Business (HSB). Established in 1923, Baylor’s business program is widely recognized for its caring faculty, its integration of Christian values and high academic standards, and its emphasis on high quality research and scholarship. HSB’s top-ranked and AACSB-accredited programs combine rigorous classroom learning, hands-on experience in the real world, a solid foundation in ethical values, and a global outlook. The mission of HSB is to cultivate principled leaders and serve the global marketplace through transformational learning and impactful scholarship in a culture of innovation guided by Christian values. HSB employs 171 total faculty, of whom 65% are classified as tenured or tenure-track, and 56 staff. Faculty are housed in seven academic departments – Accounting and Business Law; Economics; Entrepreneurship; Finance; Information Systems and Business Analytics; Management; and Marketing. HSB enrolls more than 3,900 undergraduate majors and more than 600 graduate students.
Reporting to the Provost, the Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of HSB. The Dean is accountable for the quality of HSB’s academic programs and faculty and the alignment of HSB’s strategic priorities with those of the University. The Dean is an advocate for HSB’s full array of disciplines and programs, employees, and students, and is responsible for the development of an overarching vision and a collaborative spirit that will pull these components into an integrated whole. The Dean is expected to provide visionary leadership to align with the strategic goals and commitments of Baylor In Deeds, the university’s academic strategic plan. The Dean is expected to recruit, develop, and retain strong research faculty, outstanding clinical faculty and lecturers, and excellent staff who are internationally recognized for their scholarly contributions and deeply committed to Baylor’s Christian mission and emphasis on teaching excellence; to enhance undergraduates’ educational experience; to increase graduate programs; to continue to elevate the caliber and impact of research activity as befits Baylor’s distinctive identity as a Research 1 (R1) Christian university; and to lead substantial development and fundraising efforts to secure resources necessary to fulfill HSB’s strategic priorities.
The University seeks a seasoned leader who understands the centrality of integrating faith, learning, and scholarship. Key qualifications include a strong record of distinguished leadership, (in higher education, this would include successful leadership at the dean, chair, director, or equivalent leadership level); an earned doctorate or appropriate terminal degree with a history of promoting a research culture and impactful scholarship; demonstrated expertise in strategic planning and fiscal management; enthusiasm and ability to engage in substantial development and fundraising efforts; and a commitment to HSB’s initiatives to promote Christ-centered community and belonging among faculty, staff, and students.
