The Behavioral Laboratory seeks a Research Coordinator. It is a 1-year, fixed-term position with the possibility of a renewal for a second year. The Research Coordinator will provide research assistance to faculty by conducting human subjects research in the laboratory (in-person subjects) and in online surveys. This is a perfect position for those looking towards graduate school in organizational behavior, marketing, social psychology, and related fields.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to support the process of human subjects’ research and learn more deeply how it is conducted. Working under the direction and supervision of the Lab Director and/or faculty researcher, the Research Coordinator provides direct research support to the organizational behavior and behavioral marketing faculty and Ph.D. students at the GSB Behavioral Lab. You will be in a position to learn how online and laboratory experimentation and research are conducted by carrying out that research for faculty. You will spend the majority of your time preparing, troubleshooting, and posting online surveys, as well as conducting in-person in-lab experiments.
This is a 100% on-site job that requires work with in-person subjects. Remote work is not available for this role.
Your primary responsibilities include:
Research support, about 80% of the time, may consist of running experiment sessions, programming computer-based studies, data coding and entry, and gathering field data. In addition to research support, roughly 10% of the time, the Research Coordinator will provide administrative support for the Behavioral Lab. Administrative support may include communication with members of the participant pool, maintenance of the Lab website and participant pools, coordinating lab space scheduling, and ensuring the laboratory space is maintained.
Plan and perform research tasks requiring initiative and judgment by applying basic knowledge and understanding of scientific theory when precedents do not provide specific guidance. Comply with general instructions provided by the supervisor as needed. May interpret study results in collaboration with supervisor or PI.
Participate in the development and administration of survey instruments and rating scales requiring judgment in applying non-routine procedures. Analyze and summarize results for review with the supervisor. Audit the accuracy and validity of data.
Review and audit research forms for completion and accuracy with source documents and ensure compliance with research protocols.
Identify, select, extract, and summarize data and structured information. Present a summary of findings to the supervisor.
Build and organize data as requested by the principal investigator or supervisor; use common spreadsheet programs requiring the application of job control language in generating and organizing data.
Adapt new, nonstandard methods outlined by the supervisor in designing and evaluating phases of research projects (i.e., educational materials, questionnaires, strategies for recruitment, data quality control procedures, and processes).
Assist with the development, communication, and design of research findings to internal and external audiences, which may include web updates, social media, and/or white papers, for use in recruitment, educational, or awareness of programs, with guidance from the supervisor.
May orient and train new staff or students.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
Bachelor of Arts degree in an applicable social science-related field, or a combination of education and relevant experience in an applicable social science.
The ability to work independently in an unstructured environment with unpredictable workflows and remain flexible in response to changing policies and procedures. Supervision is relatively hands-off after an initial training period of a few months, but the Lab Director maintains consistent communication.
An ability to balance multiple, competing projects, working with multiple faculty and doctoral students.
Independent self-starter who can take initiative, see projects through to completion, and understand the unique priorities and demands of lab-based experimentation.
General understanding of scientific theory and methods, typically gained through completion of an undergraduate degree in a related field.
General computer skills and the ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.
Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
At a minimum, an intermediate skill with Excel/Google Sheets.
Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work with human study participants.
In addition, preferred requirements include:
Experience with Qualtrics.
Intermediate to advanced ability with Excel/Google Sheets.
Basic skills with HTML and Java.

It is one of a handful of research support units at the GSB that make up the broader Research Hub. The Behavioral Lab primarily supports the research of faculty and doctoral students in micro-organizational behavior and behavioral marketing, as well as other disciplines. This entails online survey research, in-person laboratory experiments, and manipulating/coding the collected data (i.e...., videos from lab studies and text data from online surveys). Throughout the year, the lab supports about 20+ faculty and their doctoral students.
