Position Summary: Assistant Professor (Non-Tenure) for Online Strategic Decision Making Course
The Department of Management at Michigan State University seeks a fixed term (teaching-oriented) faculty member to teach an online master’s course on strategic decision making. The ideal candidate will demonstrate successful experience teaching similar courses and have a graduate degree in a field relevant to teaching strategic management.
The “Strategic Decision Making” course (MGT 873) covers concepts and processes for creating and analyzing organizational strategies. Students gain understanding of the factors affecting individual and group decision making processes, as well as tools and techniques to improve decision outcomes. The course covers how to avoid common biases and errors in strategic analyses. Students gain skills to design and manage a team’s strategic analysis and decision-making process.
Instruction is 100 percent online—both asynchronous and synchronous. Each week of the course includes recorded videos and live lectures/discussions. The instructor is expected to develop the course website and instructional materials (including videos) prior to the initial offering. All work can be done remotely within the U.S.
This course is offered in two distinct online master’s programs at Michigan State University’s Broad College of Business—the Master of Science in Management, Strategy, and Leadership (MS MSL) and the Master of Science in Healthcare Management (MS HCM). US News and World Report ranks these programs together among the top 10 online master’s in business programs. For further information about the programs, visit the following sites:
Instruction in the MS HCM program begins in Fall 2025 and for the MS MSL program in Spring 2026. Candidates may apply to teach in one program or both. Those interested in teaching in the Healthcare Management program should indicate in their cover letter any relevant healthcare knowledge or experience and how they will address the industry in their course delivery.
