Associate Professor or Full Professor in International Political Economy
Location: University of Notre Dame campus Open Date: Sep 02, 2025 Deadline: Oct 17, 2025 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time
Description: The University of Notre Dame's Keough School of Global Affairs at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana is accepting applications for the Rogalski Professorship in International Political Economy, a full-time, tenured position at the associate or full professor level. This position includes an administrative leadership role as the Director of the Keough School's McKenna Center for Human Development and Global Business, which seeks to understand the critical role of global business in reducing poverty and inequality. The mission of the McKenna Center is to create enduring partnerships between the private sector, governments, institutions of higher education, and professional development actors to advance sustainable development and mitigate risk to companies, vulnerable populations, and our shared environment.
We seek a scholar whose work examines the role of business in the global economy. This includes areas such as international trade, global finance, supply chains and geopolitics, social entrepreneurship and innovation, economic statecraft, or the political economy of sustainability and climate transition. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work combines analytical rigor with policy relevance, and who are committed to public scholarship and engagement with global institutions, governments, civil society, and the private sector. Candidates should approach these issues through rigorous disciplinary training in fields such as political science, economics, public policy, international relations, business or related areas. The ideal candidate will contribute to shaping the School's intellectual agenda at the intersection of economics, politics, and global governance.
The ideal candidate will also have a record of interdisciplinary research, institutional leadership, and commitment to public engagement. As director of the McKenna Center, they will provide intellectual and strategic leadership for McKenna, guiding its research agenda, overseeing external grants and programming, and collaborating with other units in the Keough School and at the university more broadly. This is a full-time, tenured appointment with administrative responsibilities and teaching expectations at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The professorship will be based in the Keough School, which promotes interdisciplinary and policy-relevant research on critical issues in global affairs, transformative educational programs, and partnerships for global engagement. The Keough School approaches global affairs and development through a focus on integrated human development, which is also central to the University of Notre Dame's mission. The Keough School offers degrees at the undergraduate, Master's and PhD level. Position duties include research, teaching, and service. The position is expected to begin in August 2026.
Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in political science, economics, public policy, international relations, business or a closely related field, with demonstrated expertise in international political economy.
The successful candidate is expected to have a record of distinguished scholarship and teaching that merits appointment at the associate or full professor level, demonstrate expertise in at least one core area of international political economy (e.g., trade, finance, supply chains, development, environmental political economy), be committed to interdisciplinary collaboration and public engagement, have experience or strong interest in policy engagement, public communication, and applied global research, and be committed to mentoring students and contributing to a collaborative, interdisciplinary academic environment.
This appointment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check. Applicants will be asked to identify all felony convictions and/or pending felony charges. Felony convictions do not automatically bar an individual from employment. Each case will be examined separately to determine the appropriateness of employment in the particular position. Failure to be forthcoming or dishonesty with respect to felony disclosures can result in the disqualification of a candidate. The full procedure can be viewed at https://facultyhandbook.nd.edu/?id=link-73597.
