The Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary is seeking a world-class scholar to fill the Croft Research Chair in Management, with a disciplinary focus in Organizational Behaviour and a research emphasis on work and health. Work and health scholarship examines how work and workplaces can foster well-being, safety, and sustainability, including but not limited to areas such as occupational, physical, and mental health, leadership, burnout, recovery, workplace harassment, inclusion and organizational support, employee wellness, emotions, and psychosocial risks.
The Chair includes annual research funding and a reduction in teaching responsibilities.
The Croft Research Chair supports a senior scholar (Full Professor) with an internationally recognized research program, a track record of or potential to secure major external funding, and a demonstrated ability to mentor the next generation of researchers. The Chairholder will contribute to and enhance the schools vibrant research community.
The appointment is expected to begin July 1, 2026.
About the Position Eligibility and Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate will:
Hold a Ph.D. in Organizational Behaviour, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Management, or a closely related discipline.
Have an exceptional and sustained publication record in top-tier journals (e.g., Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organization Science, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Management, Organizational Behavior & Human Decision Processes).
Demonstrate research leadership, evidenced by high-impact scholarship, international visibility, and meaningful engagement in knowledge mobilization or public dialogue.
Exhibit scholarly expertise in healthy work, such as occupational, physical, and mental health, leadership, burnout, recovery, workplace harassment, inclusion and organizational support, employee wellness, emotions, and psychosocial risks.
Teach undergraduate and doctoral courses in organizational behaviour, contribute to curriculum development, and supervise and mentor Ph.D. students.
Join a collegial and research-intensive Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources group that includes scholars widely published in top journals, recognized for award-winning research on topics such as leadership, occupational health and safety, workplace mistreatment, behavioural ethics, and behavioural statistics and meta-analyses.
Appointment Details:
The appointment will normally be at the rank of Full Professor with tenure, although exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor rank may also be considered if they meet the criteria for promotion.
The Chairholder will be named the Croft Chair in Management for an initial five-year term, renewable subject to performance in accordance with the CHAIR Terms of Reference at the Haskayne School of Business.
Haskayne chairholders typically receive annual research funding and a teaching reduction to support activities such as leading research initiatives, securing external research funding, mentoring junior colleagues and students, enhancing curriculum, fostering transdisciplinary and industry collaborations, engaging with practitioner and community audiences, organizing scholarly events, and raising the visibility and impact of the school.
Additional Considerations:
Candidates will be especially competitive if they also demonstrate some of the following:
Strong potential and/or record of securing external research funding.
Experience fostering collaborations across disciplines and with external partners.
A track record of engaging with practitioner audiences (e.g., through events, partnerships, or other forms of knowledge mobilization).
Evidence of prestige in the field, such as editorships or leadership roles in academic associations.
Methodological expertise that advances the study of healthy work (e.g., longitudinal, multilevel, experience sampling, experimental, qualitative, or meta-analytic approaches)
Interest in and the ability to teach methodology courses related to their area of research expertise.
Capacity to mentor Ph.D. students to successful completion and academic placement.
